The Chelsea Groton Foundation Awards over $600K in Grants to Regional Nonprofits

GROTON, Conn. – The Chelsea Groton Foundation awarded $608,800 in grants to 119 non-profit organizations from Connecticut and Rhode Island. Inclusive of these donations, the Foundation has awarded $8.1 million in total grants to the community since 1998. 

“Strong communities are built when neighbors, organizations, and local businesses come together with a shared commitment to supporting one another. Through these grants, we are proud to support our local nonprofits that provide vital services, create opportunities, and bring hope to individuals and families across our region,” said Anthony A. By investing in their missions, we are strengthening the support systems that help our communities thrive.”

More than half of the funds ($357,600) went to organizations in the health and human services category, including grants to Generation Power CT ($10,000) for emergency energy assistance, Connecticut Foodshare ($10,000) for hunger relief programs, and the Salvation Army of Norwich ($10,000) for food security, and seasonal and emergency assistance.

Educational projects received 18% of funding, including $3,000 to New England Science & Sailing Foundation for a New London partnership program, $5,000 to Haitian Community Center of Greater Norwich for expanding their ESL program and $10,000 to Riverfront Children’s Center, Inc. for early childhood education for those from low-income households. 

Additional grants were distributed in support of youth activities, housing, arts and culture, economic development, and environmental initiatives. Funding went to New London Lodge of Elks ($2,500) for New London community youth programs, Thames River Community Service, Inc ($10,000) for safe and stable housing for young families, CARTie ($2,500) for integrating art museum enrichment in New London’s early childhood curriculum, Women's Business Development Council Inc ($5,000) for the Ignite grant program and entrepreneurial training for women-owned small businesses, and Connecticut Audubon Society ($4,450) for science in nature experiential learning for elementary students in New London County.
