Pullman & Comley Welcomes Hon. Theodore R. Tyma (Ret.) to the Firm
BRIDGEPORT, CT, May 13, 2025 — Pullman & Comley, LLC is pleased to announce the addition of Judge Theodore R. Tyma (Ret.) to the firm as a Member in the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practice. Judge Tyma has extensive experience in mediating a broad spectrum of civil matters including personal injury, professional liability, employment, probate and commercial disputes. He will be based in the firm’s Bridgeport office.
“Judge Tyma is a wonderful addition to our already-stellar ADR team,” said Robert L. Holzberg, chair of Pullman’s ADR practice and retired Connecticut Superior Court Judge. “He has been consistently recognized by both attorneys and clients for his ability to work effectively with parties and counsel to resolve challenging and complex cases.”
Judge Tyma retired from the bench in May 2025 after 21 years of service. During his judicial career he served as a trial judge assigned to preside over a wide variety of civil and criminal disputes. He tried numerous jury and court cases to verdict.
For most of his career he was the presiding judge of the civil dockets in the Bridgeport and Ansonia-Milford judicial districts. In this capacity he worked closely with counsel in managing the cases and reaching pretrial settlements. Additionally, attorneys from across the state frequently requested Judge Tyma as a mediator to assist them in reaching settlement agreements in complex disputes in court annexed mediations.
Judge Tyma formerly served as member of the Committee of Uniformity of Court Procedures, Bench Bar Foreclosure Committee, Judicial Branch Law Library Committee and most recently was a governor-nominated member of the Judicial Review Council. He also was a member of the judicial faculty for the Connecticut Judges Institute where he taught a course on Civil Protection Orders. He received his B.A. from Fairfield University and his J.D., cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School. Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Tyma practiced civil litigation in Bridgeport and Fairfield for two decades.
Judge Tyma joins retired judges Marshall K. Berger, Robert L. Holzberg, John D. Moore and Michael E. Riley at Pullman & Comley’s ADR practice for a total of five retired judges at the firm.
