Traffic Stop Simulation for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Do you know someone on the Spectrum who could use practice with a traffic stop to ease anxiety in the future and build their confidence? Join us at this event!
There are limited slots for this first ever event in Rocky Hill, CT. We will host another one in the spring and possibly summer.
Drivers must have a current license or learner's permit, drive their own vehicle to the event to use during the simulation, and have their own insurance. A support person is highly recommended to attend, but no more than 2 support people per car. The support person is also encouraged to be an "observer" as much as possible to allow the simulation to be as real possible.
Please dress according to the weather that day as you will be asked to roll down your window as in a normal traffic stop. Participants will review and practice the process of a routine traffic stop with the local Rocky Hill police department. Each session for each participant is slotted to last from 20-30 minutes.
Each participant will receive the "blue envelope" that day from a police officer along with a short visual guide to keep in your car on what to do when you get pulled and calming strategies on the back.
Each participant will receive an arrival time at least 24 hours prior to the event. If you have a preferred time, please let us know on your registration. First come, first serve.
Time slots available are:
5:00PM-5:30PM
5:35PM-6:05PM
6:15PM-6:45PM
6:50PM-7:20PM
7:25PM-7:55PM
***This event will still be held rain or shine. We want it to be as real as possible for everyone who participates. Yes, it will be dark outside and the police lights will be used. We will send entry point/driving descriptions via email the day before on November 29th along with your arrival time. Check your spam folder for this information.***
