Epilepsy Foundation of CT 34th Annual Mud Volleyball Tournament
34th ANNUAL MUD VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT Middletown, Conn., August 5, 2021 – On Saturday, August 21, 2021, more than 200 teams of volleyball players will “get down and dirty” at Zoar’s Pond Recreation Area in Middletown to play in the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut’s 33rd Annual Mud Volleyball Tournament.
The “good, clean” fun begins at 8:30 a.m. and play continues until there is a winner. Since 1987, the state-wide tournament has grown from 32 teams and 8 courts to 214 teams playing on 24 courts. This year, teams will travel from all corners of the state and beyond to play in the mud and support the work of the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut. 1,500 players will be knee-deep in mud competing to bring home a trophy and a year of bragging rights.
“We are beyond excited to once again hold this amazing event in person after being forced to hold a virtual fundraiser last year due to the pandemic. Our mud volleyball tournament offers a fun and unique opportunity for individuals to get “down and dirty” while benefiting the 36,000 individuals living with epilepsy in Connecticut. We can’t wait to see many familiar faces returning as well as see some new teams that are participating for the first time,” said Linda Wallace, Executive Director of the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut.
Epilepsy is a chronic disease involving recurring seizures caused by sudden changes in the electrical function of the brain. It is characterized by more than 20 different types of seizures that can be unpredictable and can cause other health problems. It is a very common neurological disorder and affects approximately 36,000 people in Connecticut.
The Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut’s Mud Volleyball Tournament raises funds to provide resources, education, recreation, advocacy, and support to anyone affected by epilepsy in the state. Individuals, corporations, businesses, and civic and professional groups are encouraged to team up and raise money for a good cause.
The entry fee for a team that registers prior to the event is $275 and the fee is $325 for teams that register on the day of the event. Spectators are also encouraged to attend. Radio personalities from 102.9, The Whale, and Radio 104.1 WMRQ, will be on-site providing team announcements, music, and entertainment throughout the tournament.
The event is also supported by the City of Middletown, Connecticut Rental Centers, DeRita Construction Company, Connecticut Agricultural Experimental Station, Tilcon-CT, All Waste, Middlesex Amateur Radio League, Hunters Ambulance, All RV, Boy Scout Troop 16, the Judicial Branch Community Service Program, Sun Belt, G&H Equipment, and American Carting.
