Gambling Awareness: What you Need to Know When Working with Clients
Explore how gambling and gambling expansion impacts clients and families in Connecticut. This workshop will include developing an understanding of what gambling means as well as the progression from recreational to disordered gambling, group interaction on how to determine risk related to gambling, legal/illegal forms of gambling, similarities/differences to substance abuse/mental health issues as well as the science behind disordered gambling, gambling in the criminal justice system and clinical interventions used. Facilitators will aid participants in how to infuse gambling education into the work that is already being provided as well as discuss DSM 5 criteria, screening tools used in treatment, referral process, and certification overview for anyone who may be interested in becoming certified. This training has been approved for 3.75 Continuing Education Credit Hours by the National Association of Social Workers, CT (NASW) and Connection Certification Board (CCB).
