About Us

Established in 1895, Connecticut Forest & Park Association’s (CFPA) mission is to connect people to Connecticut’s forests, parks, and trails, to ensure these special places are protected and well managed for future generations. CFPA inspires active, lifelong engagement with Connecticut’s abundant and well-managed forests, parks, and trails by building a vibrant and diverse conservation community.

CFPA's key programs are: Advocacy at the State Capitol for Connecticut's forests, parks, trails, and open spaces; Trail Building and Maintenance on the 825 mile Blue-Blazed Hiking Trails network which includes the CT section of the New England Scenic Trail; Environmental Education for landowners, adults, and students; and Land Protection as a state-wide land trust. We are recognized both nationally and statewide as the state’s leading conservation organization.

CFPA's leadership over the years set a national example for successful forest conservation and reversed the damage to Connecticut's natural resources. When CFPA began its work, Connecticut was 20% forested: today it is 60% forested. We remain vigilant and involved in the sound management and protection of our land, water, and wildlife resources. In 2009, we were integral in helping to establish the nation’s newest National Scenic Trail, The New England Trail.

CFPA continues to champion the needs of Connecticut's public recreational facilities for the funding, personnel, and equipment necessary to maintain and improve these natural treasures.
