Job Description

FLSA Status:  Non - Exempt
Salary Range:  $18.00 – $22.00 per hour

General Description
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Assistant Director of Aquatics organizes and implements high quality, member focused YMCA aquatic programs while overseeing the safety of all operations in the Aquatics areas.  
Essential Functions

  • Exemplify the character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all relationships.
  • Assists with the development, implementation and supervision of all aquatic programs with the intent to increase net income including but not limited to lessons for all age groups, recreational swim programs and group rentals.
  • Assists with the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of all lifeguards and instructors staff.
  • Runs monthly staff in-services and facility wide emergency drills   
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health & safety regulations
  • Creates and manages lifeguard and swim instructor schedules.
  • Organizes and conducts American Red Cross lifeguard, First Aid & CPR certifications classes throughout the year.
  • Works closely with the Aquatic Director to help promote aquatic programs to help positively impact membership recruitment and retention.
  • Teaches lifeguard classes, lifeguards and teaches swim lessons when needed
  • Flexible schedule which may include evenings and weekend shifts depending on the needs of the department
  • All other duties as directed or required for the overall success of the organization.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate work experience
  • At least 21 years of age 
  • At least three years of experience in a wide variety of Aquatics programs and pool operations, preferably in a leadership capacity.
  • At least one year of staff supervision experience & demonstrated ability to positively develop and support exceptional performance.
  • Other requirements include:
    • YMCA or American Red Cross certifications in the following:
      • Life Guard
      • Lifeguarding & Swim Instructor (or must obtain within the first 3 months)
      • First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer
    • Knowledge of YMCA aquatic programs and curriculum is preferred.
    • Proficiency with a variety of software and other computer applications is required.
