Job Description
The Retail Manager (Apple Barrel market) builds and leads a team of employees/associates to deliver an exceptional experience for our customers and brings the core ethical values of the Lyman Farm to life.  This position inspires the team through strong, positive, and pro-active leadership to deliver measurable results that exceed our customer’s expectations and enrich their lives.
  • Identifies and selects top talent, reviews employee performance, provides corrective action, and identifies training needs for all assigned staff.
  • Teaches, trains, and mentors the team to bring the Lyman Orchards vision and core ethical values to life.
  • Encourages an open feedback culture focused on creating a positive environment for management, staff, customers and vendors.
  • Maintains flawless store and property brand standards.
  • Deliver on the Lyman Orchards Safety Plan (both personal and food safety) and ensure strong positive safety culture.
  • Coordinate and facilitate special on-site promotions, displays and events.
  • Respond to and resolve customer concerns in a timely manner.
  • Work with company vendors & team to merchandise appropriately based on the needs of the business.
  • P&L Responsibility for revenue and expense, working with managers on expense & staffing controls.
  • Develop a strong team to implement distinct retail initiatives, including mail order/gift baskets, production, stocking, and more.
  • Ensure that all cash and other asset controls and procedures are followed. 
  • Assess changes in business needs and partner with Director of Marketing & Retail Operations to discuss strategic agility.
  • Accountable for agreed upon sales and operational goals, motivate their staff to attain these goals, track sales and costs against the goals, and require accountability for the results.
  • Partner with the Director of Orchards & Facilities Management on the maintenance of equipment, the building, and the grounds.
  • Can meet the expectations and needs of Lyman Orchards’ internal and external customers
  • Is action-oriented and comfortable acting in a dynamic retail environment
  • Knowledge of safe food handling
  • Can anticipate potential issues and uses all available resources to methodically solve problems
  • Confronts conflict head on and works to find common ground with little impact to the business
  • Can tailor message and effectively communicate to a diverse group of individuals
  • Ability to manage time and time of others to focus on what is important
  • Makes timely decisions using good judgment and analysis

  • Must hold a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to lift 30 ponds
  • Must have a working knowledge of basic software applications, i.e.,Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must possess mathematical skills
