SUMMARY:The Blue Zones Project - A Long Term Vision for Improving the Health of our Community
DESCRIPTION:The Blue Zones Project \n\nA Long Term Vision for Improving the Health of Our Community.\n\n \n\nMichael Kalinowski\, M.D.\n \n\nHow can we move our individual and collective approach to health from reactive to proactive? How could this strategy benefit the health of employees and improve long term economic development of our region? We will discuss a plan for implementing a comprehensive public health strategy in our community to achieve these goals. The "Blue Zones" is a research project sponsored by National Geographic that discovered 5 communities around the world demonstrating exceptional longevity and quality of life\, with low chronic disease burden and high independence. These outcomes are achievable in our own lives with the right choices and environmental support. We will discuss the lifestyle variables shared by these communities and the power of environmental influence on driving health behaviors and outcomes. We will then discuss "The Blue Zones Project"\, a large scale public health initiative currently implemented in 42 communities in the United States. This program works to redesign communities with the approach of making the healthier choice the easier choice.
