Job Summary
 
Durham Market is searching for a part-time, experienced Butcher. This candidate will be responsible for cutting, trimming and packaging meat and meat products according to company standards. The position may include evening and weekend hours with some holidays.
 
Responsibilities and Duties
 
The Part-time Butcher will be a team player and give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made and ask questions as appropriate. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Adhering to all federal, state, local regulations (including health and safety) as they apply to the meat area.
  • Receiving, processing, cutting, trimming, scraping, packaging, tying, wrapping, weighing, pricing and labeling meat and meat products according to company standards.
  • Receiving, inspecting, and storing meat upon delivery, to ensure meat quality.
  • Maintaining proper case and display conditions, to include: cleaning, stocking, straightening, rotation and culling product.
  • Maintaining proper cooler conditions, to include: rotating and organizing cases of product and cleaning.
  • Maintaining proper sanitary conditions, to include: cleaning and sanitizing of all work surfaces, utensils and equipment.
  • Operating saws, knifes, grinders and any additional equipment as required.
  • Maintaining a neat, clean appearance at all times.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches
to problems.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned by management.
 
Requirements
 
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program for meat cutters.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Solid time management skills.
