Job Description

Middlesex United Way is seeking a dynamic, community-oriented individual to lead a three-year innovative
economic development project for the city of Middletown: Middletown Works. This full-time position will be
responsible for managing and coordinating the efforts of a broad, multi-sector coalition co-led by Middlesex
United Way and The Connection, Inc., as well as representatives from over 30 other organizations and
businesses in Middletown. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Community Impact at
Middlesex United Way and, together with representatives from the leading organizations, will serve on the
Executive Team.
The Middletown Works initiative is the result of a grant from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston to develop a
plan to improve the lives of low-income Middletown residents. The successful candidate will have experience
leading cross-sector partnerships and systems-level change efforts, and be skilled in community engagement
and social mobilization.
The Initiative Director will be responsible for project leadership, strategic planning and oversight, and
Primary Responsibilities:
· Serve as the face of Middletown Works for the community, representing and promoting the initiative
to businesses, the media, funders, and local organizations and institutions
· Serve as liaison to the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston
· Lead the initiative in carrying out its strategic goals and activities
· Provide inspiring, adaptive, culturally responsive leadership for Middletown Works, fostering a culture
of equity, collaboration, shared learning, and mutual respect
· Organize and facilitate meetings with the Executive Team, Core Team, and a wide variety of
community stakeholders
· Engage new community stakeholders, particularly community members and local business owners
· Using a Collective Impact model, manage and align the work of all initiative partners to ensure that
roles and responsibilities are clearly defined, and contribute to the shared goals and objectives of the
· Develop systems of reporting and accountability for initiative partners
· Develop clear channels of communication with all stakeholders and partners
· Develop and implement systems to monitor progress toward project goals
